Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a chiropractor and a physiotherapist?

There are many similarities between the two professions. Chiropractors qualify with a Masters Degree and use gentle chiropractic adjustments/manipulations as an important part of their treamtent. Physiotherapists however use manual mobilisation techniques instead. Both disciplines specialise in the treament of trauma and injury to the musculoskeletal system. Both aim to restore health, function and overall well being to their patients.

Is chiropractic treatment painful?

No. Chiropractic treatment does not need to be painful. At our practice we pride ourselves in listening to our patients and easing their bodies into healing in the least invasive and painful way possible.

If I see a chiropractor once do I have to go for the rest of my life?

No. Not all patients need more than one treatment to feel better. Whereas other patients need a little more help along their healing journey. Some patients however opt for a more maintenace care plan of action where they may see their chiropractor once a month, every 6 weeks or every 6 months or so. This is all very patient dependent and can be discussed with your chiropractor to figure out something that works for your body and lifestyle.

Why is there sometimes a popping sound when a joint is adjusted?

Adjustemnts of a joint may sometimes result in the release of a tiny gas bubble between your joints when there is a change in pressure within the joint, and this makes the popping sound. The same thing happens when you "crack" your knucles. There is usually minimal, if any, discomfort involved.

Does medical aid cover chiropractic treatment?

All major medical aids cover chiropractic treatment fees. But its always a good idea to check with your specific medical aid.
